Our Story
The day we said good bye to our beautiful yellow lab Charlie was a very sad day, but it was also the day that the inspiration for this blanket was born. We had our vet come to our home so Charlie could be comfortable and relaxed while we said goodbye. Once we sent her across the Rainbow Bridge, we left her peacefully laying on our futon while we got the vehicle ready for our final car ride together. We unfortunately forgot about the loss of bodily fluids that can happen once an animal passes, and so that was also the day we said goodbye to our futon mattress.
Not wanting this to happen again, and having a few more dogs we knew we would be saying goodbye to in the future, I had an idea to make a blanket that would catch and hold any bodily fluids, while still allowing us to hold and cuddle with our dogs when we had to send them across the Rainbow Bridge. My first Rainbow Bridge blanket was a reusable pee pad sewn onto a big comfy blanket, and it worked like a charm. Now I have combined a custom print with a waterproof blanket, to provide owners like myself with a product that will allow them to wrap and hold their animals in comfort and warmth, along with providing protection from loss of fluids in their final moments and during transportation to their final resting place or crematorium.
Shortly after our first blanket order arrived, our beloved lab Mally fell ill with cancer. Within days of the onset of her symptoms, we were faced with the devastating decision to have to say goodbye to her. As the vet arrived at our home, Mally was already nestled in our blanket with her head resting in my lap. Unfortunately in the last 24 hours of her life she did not move off the couch, and upon crossing the Rainbow Bridge, she released a large amount of bodily fluids. We had to wait nearly three hours before we could bring her to the crematorium, during which time she was wrapped in the blanket on our couch and later in the back seat of our vehicle. Throughout this period, there was no leakage, and the blanket we created for this very reason...had served its purpose. It provided warmth and comfort to Mally in her final moments and protected our couch and car from any messes. These blankets are a passion project I've created for the animals I cherish, and my hope is to share them with others who, like me, wish for their animals to pass in comfort and dignity.
